An assigned name is needed for every person attending Trek.  We would prefer to have the youth & leaders select a name and submit it.  However, the Jacksons have researched names and can help assign one if needed.  If you have any questions, you can contact the Jacksons (they are happy to help out).

MORMON PIONEER COMPANIES 1847–1868

Dear Trek Leaders:

Thank you for your willingness to serve as leaders for your trek groups and for your endeavors to ensure that their experience here will be spiritually uplifting.  As the youth devote this period of time to “remembering” the great sacrifices of our pioneer ancestors who responded to the call of a prophet of God, they will be moved by the Spirit available in this special, dedicated, historic site which is part of the missionary program of the church.  You have been called through inspiration.  Your talents and devotion are recognized and will be called upon.  As stake leaders we have chosen to adopt the structure of the church in our organizational efforts and execution of the Trek experience.  We will be pushing the bulk of the responsibility down thru the wards to the “trek family”, the basic organization of our Trek experience.  As the leaders of your youth in your ward or in your Trek family during this Trek experience, you will have the greatest opportunity to work with the Spirit in touching the hearts of the youth and bringing lasting change for good.
The Stake Youth Council has chosen the theme for our Trek.  It is “REMEMBER”.  President Gordon B. Hinkley said “It is good to look to the past to gain appreciation for the present and perspective for the future.  It is good to look upon virtues of those who have gone before, to gain strength for whatever lies ahead”.  This special youth conference will create an opportunity for the youth to look to the past to gain appreciation and perspective and strength for what lies ahead.  The pioneers looked to the experience of the children of Israel to find perspective and strength for their journey.  Our youth can do the same as they look to our pioneer fathers for perspective and strength for their life’s journey. Please keep the theme “Remember” central in your preparations as we “Remember” the sacrifice, love, devotion, obedience, and courage of our pioneer fathers, which in turn will help us “Remember” who we are.  Ultimately this perspective will lead us toward our Savior.  Elder M. Russell Ballard instructed us when he said:  “Joy will fill our hearts when we fully come to know the eternal significance of the greatest rescue – the rescue of the family of God by the Lord Jesus Christ.  For it is through Him that we have promise of eternal life.  Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the source of spiritual power that will give you and me the assurance that we have nothing to fear from the journey.”

As you look to participate in this “once in a lifetime” Trek opportunity, please prepare yourself physically, mentally and, most importantly, spiritually for a significant and memorable event in your gospel experience.  This will help facilitate the youth having similar experiences in their own gospel journey, particularly during this youth conference.  If we prepare ourselves the Lord will reciprocate and angels will attend our journey.  May the Lord bless you in this endeavor.

Sincerely,

The Stake Trek Committee
